NSM Career Success Center Expands Career Connections for Students

This spring, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Career Success Center (CSC) delivered a dynamic lineup of events aimed at connecting students with real-world opportunities in healthcare, research, biopharma, data science, and more. From intimate recruiting sessions to large-scale networking events, the CSC helped students build professional skills, explore career paths, and gain valuable employment insight.

Bringing Healthcare Careers to Campus

With a growing number of students pursuing careers in healthcare, the CSC launched the Medical Scribe Series. In collaboration with five leading scribe companies, we hosted tabling and meet-and-greet sessions where over 170 students connected one-on-one with current scribes, physicians, and health administrators. These events opened doors to part-time paid positions and bolstered students’ readiness for graduate healthcare programs.

Research scientists and national recruiters from Medpace also spoke to UTD students in February concerning careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Students learned about roles in study management, clinical monitoring, data management, regulation, and much more. Over 60 students attended the event, which included an informational session followed by an opportunity to meet with company representatives.

Alumni Connections and Biopharma Insights

On April 7, the CSC partnered with NSM Alumni Relations to host Dr. Nick Anousis, assistant vice president at Merck and a proud UTD Chemistry PhD graduate. During his visit, Dr. Anousis met with more than 80 undergraduate and graduate students, sharing insights into careers in the biopharmaceutical industry, the value of internships, and the innovative work happening at Merck.

Spotlight on Data Science Careers with AT&T

In another standout collaboration, the CSC and NSM-UT Discovery co-hosted an exclusive, invitation-only event on April 15 for data science students. Five hiring managers from AT&T were on campus to discuss industry trends, share information about AT&T’s Technology Development Program, and offer a candid look at early-career pathways in data science.

Campus Interviews and Career Workshops

This semester also featured on-campus interviews with Toyota Financial Services following a successful networking session with company representatives. Over 20 students interviewed directly with hiring managers, gaining critical experience and potential job opportunities.

Additional events brought representatives from UT Southwestern Medical Center, Geico, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Collin County Health Department, UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine, Tarrant County Health Department, and Texas A&M Law School (IP/Patent Law Faculty/Recruiters). These sessions provided students with access to a broad range of clinical, environmental science, data/finance, public health, and legal career options.

Empowering Students Through Skill-Building Workshops

Throughout the semester, the NSM CSC also offered targeted career development workshops. Topics included crafting a STEM-focused resume, optimizing LinkedIn for internship and job searches, and building confidence in interviews—all designed to give students the tools they need to stand out in a competitive job market.
